Obesity and Fast Foods

Hello Again Guys!

To continue on the topic of fast food on a serious note, I thought I'd talk a bit about a significant problem that society is facing and how fast food has played a role in advancing that problem.

The advent of fast food has been advantageous for a lot of people. From saving time for working people who don't have time in the morning to make some lunch to making available a venue for young people to hangout. From saving a family from having to cook for the night to letting people who just want a change in scenery do just that.

But when advantages like the ones mentioned are misused, they lead to one of the biggest problems in North America, obesity. According to Statistics Canada 2013[1], there are about 14 million adult Canadians who are classified as obese from a population of 35 million. This problem is even worse in the United States of America where according to [2], more than two thirds of Americans are overweight or obese and one third are obese. In case it wasn't clear, those are significant portions of the population in both countries.

Obesity can lead to multiple health related problems. These health problems lead to a host of other problems such as loss in productivity and simple things like not being able to walk long distances or at all or not being able to tie your shoelaces. In terms of health, obese people are more prone to diabetes, blood pressure, heart disease, respiratory problems, higher mortality, back problems, kidney stones. Other problems include excessive sweating and odor, extra cost on airplane seating, difficulty in finding clothes that fit and finally depression. These are just a few that I could find within two minutes of searching google. If a proper study was done, I am sure a hundred different negative points could be found.

That is all I have to say about the topic for now. The decision to make is yours. To find out more, you can visit the links below.
